David Horvitz will present a performance piece entitled Let Us Keep Our Own Noon, a project developed with Recess. It will be performed everyday of the fair on the terrace staircase at local noon using a melted French bell from 1742. The phrase below was found in a late 19th century American pamphlet protesting the standardization of time.
Local Noon Times: September 20 – 12:49, September 21 – 12:49, September 22 – 12:49.
Find a bell that once rung the time.
Melt the bell.
Shape all the metal into small bells.
Find a person for each bell.
At local noon ring all the bells together.
Slowly walk in different directions into the surrounding city
distributing the sound, and time.
